Huddersfield moved up to third with their first Super League win over the champions for seven years.

The Giants hit back from 20-12 down to inflict a third defeat of the season on Leeds, who have yet to find any consistent form.

Huddersfield, who are set to sign Wakefield scrum-half Danny Brough in the next fortnight, were full value for their win as the Rhinos struggled without injured back row trio Kevin Sinfield, Carl Ablett and Greg Eastwood.

The Giants lost centre Michael Lawrence through injury on nine minutes but were ahead two minutes later when Shaun Lunt took man of the match David Fa’alogo’s pass to score.

And they doubled their lead through Lee Gilmour after Leroy Cudjoe had latched on to a superb kick from Luke Robinson.

Stephen Wild knocked on over the line and Leeds pegged it back with a converted Rob Burrow try on 29 minutes.

The Rhinos took the lead with two tries in as many minutes before the break.

Luke Burgess sent Danny McGuire over and Brett Delaney’s break set up Ryan Hall with Burrow improving both scores.

Ali Lauitiiti and Andy Raleigh were sin-binned after a flare-up before Giants substitute Larne Patrick closed the gap with a try on 50 minutes.

Maguire got across to force David Hodgson into touch and then lost the ball near the line after the Rhinos tried to capitalise on a Giants error.

And Huddersfield went back in front with a Martin Aspinwall try 14 minutes from time.

Cudjoe landed the goal and kicked a 76th-minute penalty after Luke Burgess went high on Fa’alogo.
