LIVEWIRE TYRER ON FIRE AS QUINS TIRE

ABOVE: Harlequins' Danny Orr
15th March 2010

By Daily Star Reporter

Harlequins 22 Salford 26

Steven Tyrer's second-half hat-trick helped Salford to their first win of the season – and hauled them off the foot of the table.

The Reds came back from 18-4 down to chalk up the victory as Quins dropped to the bottom.

It was the hosts who started the better – but Salford scored from their first attack, as full-back Karl Fitzpatrick darted over in the corner.

Tries from Danny Orr and Karl Temata gave Quins the lead that their early superiority had deserved.

And Salford were then reduced to 12 men when Jeremy Smith was sin-binned for cynically taking out Orr after he had kicked through.

Quins stretched further in front when Lamont Bryan crashed over in the 50th minute.

But Tyrer scored two converted tries to bring Salford back to 18-16.

And they completed the comeback when more slick passing gave Jodie Broughton a clear run to the line and Tyrer got his hat-trick with a further late effort.

That meant Ben Jones-Bishop’s last-gasp try for Quins was nothing more than a consolation.
